I have downloaded the latest firmware from the linksys site. i type in the router�s IP address in the address bar ( computer is connect to the router with the ethernet wire), but then explorer wrt54gu to searching the net and does not open the web based utility.

Am i missing something very basic ? I attempted to upgrade the firmware for my WRT54GP2 by following the instructions. However, browsed to the download location of the bin file, then began the upgrade, the router username/password verification box kept continually popping up. The upgrade progress bar continued to move and got to a point where it says to please wait for upgrade (or something to that effect), then a big red 404 unauthorized user page pops up, which says I have entered the wrong username/password or IE does not know how to obtain information from this request.I tried this two different times and was never able to update my firmware.

After successful firmware upgrade you need to reset the router. It is recommended to reset the router once. Steps to reset the router:Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.After reset, reconfigure the router and then check the connectivity status� Thanks via_fan!I did do a power cycle after flashing the router with the new firmware but I had actually forgotten about the 30-30-30 reset procedure.�(Being out of practice, old age and alzhiemers firmwarre be catching up on me).Nevertheless, I decided to give the 30-30-30 reset a try - still no go.�The funny thing is that when I first plugged it the router, for a short while (about 2 minutes maybe) the wireless was again broadcasting the SSID.�Yay!

I said, only to find that it disappeared again. I'm almost certain now that the wiresless part of the router is flaky. I've seen others report (elsewhere) flrmware failing electronic components like capacitors could cause that. So, back on the storage linkxys it goes.
